LMP CPA LLC

My goal for the next fifteen years is to open my own CPA firm. I want to challenge myself to become someone not only know taxation but also financial knowledge. By the age of 35, I want to become financial independent and have the ability to retire my parents.

Currently, I am a junior in Baruch College. My major is accounting. I am planning to go on the 5-year path to earn my master degree and my CPA license. With the financial knowledge, I am currently under training from a financial service marketing company.

For the summer of 2010, I want to get an internship from one of the top accounting firms. Before I graduate from my bachelor degree in January 2011, I want to get a full time job offer in taxation. At the same time, I will be going for my master degree. I want to spend five to eight years in the corporate world and going for continue education every year after I graduate from my master degree.

  1. I see we kind of have similar goal that is connected with accounting. While you want to own a CPA firm, one of my goals is to work for Pricewaterhousecoopers. The idea of owning a CPA firm seems very exciting and challeging yet it is attainable. I always hear in the streets that Baruch is well known for its accounting degree so I am sure with the knowledge that you are going to attain from Baruch, you probably have one leg in your CPA firm. Good luck with you goals.

  2. Those are interesting goals. Unlike some of the other blogs I have read, these goals are very business-success oriented rather personal-life fulfilling. Although I should point out that to some people (I am included in that), a successful business practice or business recognition is in fact leading a fulfilling life. Well first I must point out that you seem very clear and specific about what goals you want to reach to achieve your vision. By 35 you want to be financially independent, you know the time frame in which you want to achieve certain degrees and be employed at certain businesses. I think that is very important to achieving someone's vision, because without certain timelimits and verifiable data, how would you know when you are ready and capable to move on in your life? Another thing I noticed about your vision and your goals, is that not only are they all specific and planned out to a T, but that you also have already begun taking the necessary actions to position yourself in workable manner to achieve your vision. After all, you are going to Baruch which has a strong Accounting reputation, and you are attempting to get internships, and currently have a job that is related to the field in which your vision culminates (financial services). Another important fact that I think will help you attain your vision is the fact that you have educated yourself about being a CPA; Not many students know that the continuing education hours that CPA's attain each year are required to maintain their license and ability to work. Since you know this minute detail well in advance of the times you are required to know it, I think that it is safe to assume that you will pick up on other details and educate yourself on how to best achieve your vision as years go by and you reach closer to your goal.

  3. You have a great vision, but I think you should have outline your exact goals for the future.

I am kind of related to you in the sense that I want to open my own hedge fund one day. Hopefully both of our visions will one day become a reality.

    Good luck to you!

  5. Wow, you surprised me, Lisa. I know you like everything planned out but your vision is so clear and detailed. You can almost see your visions becoming true very fast (as you’re already training yourself in financial service marketing company for more than a year); don’t let anything distract you from getting there. If years from now, my interest in accounting still have not change, maybe we can partnership going on? ;) lol. Let’s work hard and turn our visions into reality!!

  6. Like people have said above, I admire the fact that you are so clear with when you want to achieve your goals, which is definitely important when it comes to actually pursuing and achieving them. As you suggested for me, I will set deadlines for my goals as well.

You should definitely adopt the goals to become financially independent and to retire your parents as part of your personal vision plan of the future. Having these two goals in mind will allow you to achieve your other business-oriented goals. They will definitely be a good driving force that will help you keep focused on achieving your other goals.

I must also mention that your goal to open your own CPA firm caught my attention. It's good that you challenge yourself to do more than what you learn from a textbook or in class.

    Good luck with everything!

  8. Wow, i envy your vision. It is clear and precise, and i think thats a really good thing. Although you dream big, you have a clear idea of the current things you need to be doing in order to get there, which is more than i could say for myself. I think that as long as you always have that amount of passion for accounting, you are sure to achieve your goals.
    Goodluck!

  9. WOW it seems that you have your "map" already figured out. This is much more than I could do at this point in time. As mentioned above it is so clear and detailed. I'm sure if you are persistant and follow your plans you will succeed! Hopefully I will head a large company and come to you for accounting. =)

  11. I respect the fact that one of your main goals is to retire your parents. I would love to do the same for mine, because they came from poor backgrounds and fought there way through and moved to America to give us, their children, a better life then they had. We owe them!

  12. I think you are very clear of your career path and your vision. It’s really a good thing to you. Many people know their visions, but they don’t know how to achieve them. You really don’t have such obstacles, it’s great for you and good luck on your goals.
